Superintendent's Message

Dear MISD Parents and School Community,

I want to share with you an update in regards to the next steps for schools. Today, Governor Greg Abbott announced the extension of Texas school closures through April 30, 2020. The extension follows updated guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and an announcement from the White House extending physical distancing guidelines until April 30, 2020.

Collectively as Superintendents in the Greater Houston Region, we are following the guidance and orders from the state to extend school closures including all after school activities and extracurricular through Friday, May 1st with a possible date of students returning to school on Monday, May 4th. We will be communicating information prior to returning as each day brings new information.

For events and activities planned for the month of April, we will work together to reschedule as many events as possible in May including prom. We have already rescheduled the Class of 2020 graduations for May 30th at the Cynthia Mitchell Woods Pavillion in The Woodlands.

While we miss seeing all of our students and staff, I am proud of our teachers and students for starting our second week of online learning. We continue to offer learning resources and guidance for our students as we know providing instruction during this time is crucial.

Our number one priority will continue to be health and safety, and we will continue to work closely with public health officials to make the best decisions for kids, families, and our school communities. Please refer to the MISD website for updated links regarding current COVID-19 information. Watch your email for any changes or updates from MISD regarding changes about school and student-related information.
